Preparing to concieve

Sometimes people decide that they’re going to start a family and very quickly a baby is on the way. Unfortunately, not everyone is that that fortunate, some need a little more help. The reality is that for some couples, stress and anxiety get in the way of creating a family. This is because when our mind considers that we are in danger (under stress) then the fight/flight/freeze response is stimulated. During periods of stress, our body shuts down what it considers to be non-essential functions so that it can focus on the danger. The mind does this to protect us and therefore learning to relax can be key to becoming pregnant.

In a 2006 study of 185 women undergoing IVF treatment by Israeli Professor, Eliahu Levitas it was found that double the number of women became pregnant after being hypnotised compared with those that weren’t. (28% compared to 14%). A more recent study in 2011 published in the American Society of Reproductive Medicine shows that women who participate in a mind/body program such as hypnosis for stress reduction while undergoing IVF treatment have a significantly higher pregnancy rate than those who do not. (52% versus 20%)
